For pollination during the spring and summer seasons, consider renting our pollinator package. We will ship the bees directly to your door prior to the bloom of your fruit trees. Free shipping and a return label are included with your kit. You will receive everything you need to host both mason bees and leafcutter bees in your yard.
Please note that customers receiving their bees by mail located east of the Rocky Mountains will be charged an additional $25 shipping charge.
When ordering, select the ship date that comes a week before your fruit trees typically bloom. You bees will be shipped out on the selected Tuesday to ensure they arrive before your trees are ready to be pollinated. This kit cannot be mailed to PO boxes. If you know that you have very early blooming fruit trees, contact us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or include a note with your order and we can adjust your ship date.
The kit will also contain instructions for how to hang the house, when to put out each bee species, how to send the bees back, and a return shipping label.
Please note, if you do not return your bees during the month of September to our facility in NW Washington State, your credit card will be charged the retail amount of the kits ($250).
Your package will include: 50 mason bee cocoons, emergence tube, mason bee nesting block, hangable wood house, a nesting block filled with 150-200 leafcutter bees, and a bag of clay. To qualify for shipping of bees, you must rent the package. If you would prefer to rent only mason bees or leafcutter bees, you must be located in either Washington or Oregon and be able to attend one of our bee handout events.
Timeline of pollination kit:
March: Receive kit, when you purchase online you will select a ship date that falls a week before when your fruit trees typically bloom.
March-June: Hang the black house in the sunniest spot in your yard. Put your mason bee nesting block in the black house, take the tape off of the emergence tube and set it in the box next to or on top of the nesting block. Watch the bees work hard to pollinate your fruit trees and lay their offspring in the nesting block.
June: You will receive an email when it is time to bring mason bees into your garage or basement to protect from predators. At that time, insert your leafcutter bee block into your black house. The leafcutter bees are already in the block. Once temperatures reach 80F, they will be triggered to hatch out of the block.
June-August: Watch your vegetable garden thrive as your leafcutter bees are flying around and pollinating your crops and use the nesting block to lay their eggs.
September: Use the box your bees came in and your return shipping label to send us back the bees. We will do the rest of the work taking care of your bees during the winter months.
Mason bees can be shipped to most of the 50 states. They cannot be rented in LA, AL, GA, MS, or FL because of high humidity and temperature levels. Due to regional adaptations of the two mason bee subspecies, renters west of the Rockies will receive Osmia lignaria propinqua and renters east of the Rockies will receive Osmia lignaria lignaria.
